Scaling and Root Planing:

Scaling and root planing is one of the most effective ways to treat gum disease before it becomes severe. Scaling and Root planing removes bacteria between the gums and the teeth on the root surfaces. Local anesthetic will be used to numb your gums and the roots of your teeth so that the procedure is comfortable.

Dental hygienists will use ultrasonic and hand instruments for the planing and scaling. An antibiotic may be placed into the pockets between your teeth.  The antibiotic will help speed healing and prevent infection.  We also decontaminate the pockets with a diode laser to reduce the amount of bacteria in the periodontal pocket.
